What's up with the program, Gary?

My autoresponder decided to take a powder, and coincidentally, I signed up for Email Aces the day before. Yahoo on me.

But.. but... but...

None of my members, new nor old are getting the confirmation emails. What's up with that?

Did I miss a thread somewhere? (I've been kinda bizzy.) Or is that normal? Does it take more than a few minutes for the messages to be generated or is the site under repairs?

Hi Pat,

I'm not Gary...but I use email aces also.

According to a post at YLL forum, after the servers
went down for all of Gary's sites, I believe on Wednesday,
the mailers still aren't working there or at TLM, and
apparently it also includes verification emails too.

Counting on my fingers 4 days now...hmmmm

Thanks for the response, Pat G.

I just switched to AWeber. Support at Email Aces never answered my mail, either, and I'm gaining lots of ground fast with my newsletter. I really don't want those folks forgetting who I am, after several days now.

Yes. I'm impatient.

But I've had a couple of bad autoresponder experiences this week. The original just went offline, no explanation, just pffft!!! Now, this. I'm not a very happy camper. It takes so much time to set one up and all. Plus, I have folks from my old list on a series of mails and I have no clue which one they were on. Luckily, I remembered to export my list often, so I didn't lose any subscribers. But...

<sigh>

I guess this was just bad timing on my part (or somebody's). I understand now what's happened, but after waiting 2 days with no response from support personnel, it rubbed me the wrong way. Of course, they're probably being bombarded with mail, I'm sure. But how was I to know there was a problem?

I'm not switching back, I can tell you. Gawd. This has been a rough week. Apparently, not just for me.

I won't share my full experience, or lack there of, but I just signed up for aWeber as well. I gave emailaces a 6 week tryout and moved to aweber today.

You really need your own mailing list software. Having to rely on and trust other people to backup and to not funk up your list sounds super-scary to me! I use DadaMail; it's free (though there's a paid version), and you're in charge, and not at the mercy of someone else. If your list is really important (and what list isn't?), you'll wanna conasider maintaining it yourself.

LOL, Austin.

Binky, I've thought of getting an autoresponder program of my own, and I can see the benefit of managing my own list.

But I'm exhausted! I just went through all the effort of relocating twice in one week and the idea of messing with this stuff again isn't in the cards. I have 6 jobs to complete this week.

Maybe I'll be up to it in April--after taxes. :-) I haven't even started to think about those yet. LOL

But tell me... Can you run more than one list with DaDaMail? Is it hard to install? What are the drawbacks?

Good heavens, yes! Not in the least! I haven't found any yet, but there's always time for that! (grin) But then, it interfaces with Majordomo, so you'd hafta work really hard at it to find something you can't do.

I've used my own, but I cannot find a good one that has good features, no hassle mailings, and no worries of spam complaints. That's why i switched. I was with YourMailingListProvider for a long time but they don't have many features and you can't setup an autoresponder series. That's why I went with Gary's program.

After my 6 week fiasco, it was time to move on. So far aweber is much easier, tons more features and I had a question and it was answered almost immediately. Plus, I've talked to many 'gurus' and they all highly recommended aweber.

If I could choose, I would love to have ILH mail sent from a third party like Aweber or Email Aces, having it on your own server causes so many hassles. Just my experience from using third party and using my own server. Third party works better for me.

I chose Email Aces because so many of you guys use it, and I figured it was okay because Gary's stuff is usually high quality.

But when it came to choosing a new provider, I considered GetReponse, which is a couple of bucks cheaper than Aweber, but the idea that so many of the "big" guys use Aweber did it for me, ultimately. I figured it had to be good or they wouldn't use it, and I really DO NOT want any more hassles for a while.

Pat L.'s right about Aweber being easier than Email Aces, too. So far, I like it a lot. One really cool feature is that when you set up your opt-in box on the page, you can code it to show you which page brought the referral in.

I doubt that I'll go through the hassle of using my own script. I have my own tracking script now and I like it a lot, but it doesn't do things Hits Connect does. I may switch back there sometime, too, but paying for all these memberships and services is a heavy load. :-) I have to lose something else first, and I don't have anything that I can bear to part with right now.

trust me the biggest mistake you will ever make here, is to try and run a list of your own script. I did it that way and i regret it every day, I already started to move over to aweber.

I have a list of 20 thousand i cant move over, but i will be running that one down rather than try to keep it clean and running. no use having a big list if you cant ensure delivery, and thats the problem, without a good working relationship with service providers like msn and yahoo 60% of email is going to go in the blackhole

Robert

Hi Pat

If you are still in 3STEP you can have DaDaMail added to your domain[you are already paying for it.] That's what I have used for over 21/2 years.

Dang Binky we have something in common, DaDaMail :)

Cheers! :D

It's a piece of cake to export data out of ANYTHING, but then you mentioned running "your own script." Is the data in some sorta funny format? Or is the database just plain hosed? If you can open the database with a text editor, a simple find-and-replace routine will get it out (unless it's binary!).

I like Aweber also ...

A couple of years ago, I used AutoresponderPlus which was an excellent script that installs on your domain. Lots of great features. Pretty simple to use once installed. I basically liked it.

But I got to the point where I didn't have the time to administer EVERY little thing that came up especially with the inevitable spam complaints and dealing with (as Robert P. mentioned) ISPs like AoHell, Yahoo, ELink, SpamCop etc.

Aweber already had an EXCELLENT reputation and is constantly adding new features. Many different ways to use it. So ... I thought, "Let THEM deal with the headaches" and at $19.95/mo, I think that's a GREAT bargain.

While GetResponse is pretty decent, I think that Aweber is THE better deal, even at $2/mo more.

FWIW, of course ...
