What's important to you?

Have you planned your online business? Are you following a marketing plan, or a 5 year business plan? How close are you to reaching those goals? Have you made a good living from the internet? Or have you made a single penny at all? What keeps you clicking? What keeps you joining the new 'hype machine of the month'? Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Wow, that's alot of questions! All are very valid, and I'm sure many folks ask themselves those same questions every single day. However, the first question, which I started off with, I feel is the most important.

I'm sure you have heard the horror stories of the 'work-a-holic' family member that spends 20 hours a day working, and 20 seconds a day with their family. Heck, I'm sure many can even relate (myself included *lol*)! Yes, working hard for what you want in life is not something you should get awarded for, it should come naturally because you WANT and DESIRE success, but you need to keep it all in perspective.

The same can be said about hit exchange advertising. I've mentioned this before in past issues of H.E.N. and I'm going to say it again....Put the mouse away!

During those precious 24 hours we have in each day, we have to manage that time wisely. Yes, surfing the exchanges is vital for the industry (and your websites) to grow and maintain themselves, but take a break....Go for a walk, spend time with your family, cook dinner, watch a sporting event, go shopping! Not only will this let you focus when you get back online, you will feel so much better about your work as well.

And folks, that what it all comes down to...Enjoying yourself! This is your business and it will succeed if you put in the effort, but make sure you take time for the important things...The hit exchanges will still be there when you get back from your walk!

• Bye bye TEX Forums! The original Traffic Exchange Focus Group forums have shut down. After years of being the 'spot' for exchange news and gossip, Ngatai (the owner) has moved on to other things. For those of you that spent time there, you know if was an interesting place to hang out, and some legendary 'disagreements' took place. So thanks to Ngatai for the TEX Forums, and hopefully the NMF Forums can pick up where they left off!

• The 10 second curse? I've had some very interesting numbers come through on two of the more popular short timed exchanges. Hit Pulse and Bra Start are very popular programs and have some of the more active memberships online. Problem was, I was not receiving the hits I was supposed to get. What was their response? Seems like they suggest that I not use link trackers anymore as they 'slow down' their timers and do not register the hits properly. Maybe this could have been in the 'Things that make you go Hmmmm?' section.......

• A new feature every week? If people like this, I'll do it every week, so please let me know if this is a good resource of not! =)

"Why do the exchange owners charge SO MUCH for their hits. Is there some reality based formula that they use to determine the TRUE monetary value or a hit?"

I guess it would be what you expect to pay for a hit. The industry average seems to be about $10 per 1000 hits, but this varies from program to program. Something to remember is that no matter what the rumour is, exchange owners do not make a ton of cash. We (myself included as I own a hit exchange) make our money from selling hits and or pro upgrades. It's a very competitive market place and it is hard to say what the 'set amount is' for hits.

I know this sounds very biased but $10 is not alot to charge for 1000 hits. Owners need to pay for bandwidth, design, hosting and so much more for the free program to exist. It's a really tough question to answer, because there are so many factors involved. Charge too much, no one buys any hits. Charge too little and you sell alot, thus stopping a lot of traffic flow on the exchange.

Definately an important question to be looked at further as well!

Another program that has seemed to slip under the radar. One of the best things about the exchange industry is you find diamonds in the rough. The worst thing, is that the rough...Is really bad!

Hit Hurricane is also another great example of an owner, working with the members to create a fun and alluring place to surf. Hit Hurricane has the same kind of 'game' that Mystical Maze does, where every few clicks gets you to the game board. This time around however, you are not in a maze, but a developing tropical storm. The goal? Become a powerful Hurricane and blow away the competition. It's fun!

Hit Hurricane does lack the 'awe inspiring' graphic design and the colors of the program do seem to clash, but this is minor as the owner has transformed a rather dull exchange scripts into one of the more enjoyable and promising programs online.

This is one to watch out for, and again, it puts 'fun' back into surfing. Easy to follow members area, smooth surfing, and a game to keep you clicking. Have fun, but stay away from the storm surge! =)

New Exchange of the Week - Million Dollar Traffic

I hate these kind of programs. Not sure what it is, maybe it's the layout and the 'hype machine' kind of feel to them. The sales letter looking website? I don't know, but I usually run away from these 'type' of programs before I even finish reading the first 'Do like the guru's do it'... Very ignorant of me to do so, wow was I ever wrong about this one. Million Dollar Traffic is not your 'typical' exchange. Yes, you view different sites, and yes your site gets viewed. It's actually a piece of software that downloads on to your computer and has it's own 'browser' that you can surf it with. Does it work? Some of the BEST turn around I've ever had...Get this, 40 site views and 5 subscriptions to H.E.N. That's amazing numbers and this was in the first few hours of signing up.
