The Pulse of the Hit Exchange Industry!

May 6th, 2004

One To Click On by Jon

Welcome to the newest issue of the Hit Exchange News and this week's 'One To Click On by Jon'.

What makes a good hit exchange?

That question is asked to me almost on a weekly basis. Whether it's a new exchange owner looking for a tip or two, or an owner looking for some way to understand H.E.N.'s Top 10 List, the question is both a useful and valid one.

A good hit exchange (in my opinion) does not have to have 100% unique hits being delivered to it. While a higher percentage means more members are active, you should not judge an exchange solely by the numbers, many more factors influence what makes an exchange 'good'.

A good hit exchange is unique. It must have some kind of angle to keep you coming back. Does it deliver hits fast? Does it have a funny joke everytime you click 'next site'? Does it have some kind of theme? Creativety is so important in my books, and if the exchange can give memebrs a new twist on the same old, same old, I'm all for it.

A good exchange must deliver what is promised. Traffic. While this may seem like a given, some VERY popular programs have a big problem in delivering the hits. Without hits, you are surfing an exchange for nothing. A steady traffic flow is crucial.

The list can go on, but I want to end on what I feel is the absolute most IMPORTANT factor in determining a good exchange, customer service! This includes regular updates via email about the program, swift responses to support requests and the feeling of an owner that cares about their program. If they want your business, they will earn it and some of the exchanges in this industry do an amazing job of that!

So what makes the perfect exchange? *lol* That's another story all together, but if you add a little bit of those characteristics above, you will be in good hands! Keep on clicking!

Thank you so much for being a subscriber, and I hope you enjoy this week's issue!

Jon =)

The News

  • A new exchange called All About Traffic has brought forth a hard stance on members who are not following their terms of service, as this is what can be found on their front page;

    "UNIQUE only to All About Traffic, any surfer that Reports a site that breaks All About Traffic's terms will get that sites credits and referrals"

    Interesting to say the least, but the discussion has begun. Is this just a harsh stance or a new owner that wants to keep a tight ship running?

  • If you needed another reason to surf Traffic Round Up, here it is. The folks at the Round Up have now taken customer service to new heights. Recently installed is their brand new live help desk where you can chat live with support staff. Now that, is great news, new exchanges take note!

  • Reported last week, New Start Pages, one of the biggest directories online for new exchanges, closed up shop. However, your voices where heard and NSP is back online for the time being. It's a great chance to go and check out this wonderful resource and bookmark some great exchanges!

Hey Jon!

This week's question comes from Luana;

"With so many click exchanges coming out lately - does that mean the quantity of unique visitors is going up for our websites?

It seems to me that it would not be so with everyone signing up for the same ones - traffic would be redundant. What's your take on this? "

My reply;

Thanks for the e-mail =)

The traffic quality goes up, when the exchange brings in 'quality' people. For example, it's fine to start an exchange and promote it everywhere online, but how many exchanges do offline promotion? This brings in different people and keeps new people into the industry.

Look at an exchange like Clickcrazey.com, they have offline promotional material for people to purchase. They are trying to build a userbase offline as well as online.

Do you have a burning question about hit exchanges? Thinking of starting one? Tired of clicking for hours with no results? This is H.E.N.'s weekly Q & A section where I will answer a question every week that you ask me! Send all your questions to me here and just put HEY JON! in the subject line!

Congratulations to Luana for winning last issue's contest. Remember, keep sending in your 'Hey Jon' questions for your chance to win a quick 10 bucks and a month's worth of banner ad space in HEN!

Program Review - Funny Farm Traffic

A catchy jingle or a funny joke can do a world of wonders for people. Especially in this day and age, it's important to have a good laugh and not take things so seriously.

Welcome to the world of Funny Farm Traffic, an exchange that was created to make you laugh and click, sometimes at the same time. Based around the popular PHPlite script, Funny Farm has been around for a few months now and continues to deliver a steady traffic flow for it's members.

The script has some very 'colorful' cheat protection as well as a 'relaxing' web site that pops up from time to time to give the surfer a break but more importantly to deliver a joke to the viewer. A great theme makes this program not only effective, but fun!

% Unique Traffic: 70
Results: 3.0 out of 5.0
Traffic Flow (Speed of Delivery): Average
Site Design: 4.0 out of 5.0
Customer Service: 4.0 out of 5.0
Ease of Use: 4.0 out of 5.0

Overall Rating: 3.5 Mouse Clicks (Rating out of 5.0)

Things That Make You Go...Hmmm? (A 'Different' Look at the Industry!)

  • Note to Millon Dollar Traffic...Please, send less e-mails about the hottest new e-book and more emphasis on getting the membership active again! Hmmm....

  • There's a brand new exchange called Traffic Chaser on the market...Big new huh? How about 12,000 free credits to start. Guess how many people will be surfing this one, zero!Hmmm...

  • Direct from Top Surfer; "You get .01 US for every 35 sites you see, USING THE MONEY SURFBAR"! Wow? Great? Hmmm....
